A Message from the Councilor

I need your help to get re-elected as Metro Councilor for District 4 in Washington County. My first term as Metro Councilor has produced real results for my District, and I've enjoyed the opportunity to do this work. I look forward to your support so I can serve another term, and continue the challenging and effective work I've been doing at Metro.

As I’m sure you know, campaigns are expensive, and this one is especially so because of the size of the district, more than 120,000 voters. It will take a lot of money to get my positive message out to the community, so that I can prevail in the May election.

I am passionate about preserving and improving the quality of life and economic vitality of Washington County, and I always keep in mind the values that you, the citizens and businesses of the district, have expressed to me as I've met you at your door or in meetings across the county. I've accomplished a great deal in my first term at Metro, but there is much more to do to implement our land use and transportation plans for the benefit of our communities and neighborhoods, and to promote the long-term sustainability of our region.

Here's my agenda:

  • I'll keep working to insure that Metro's decisions promote the creation of family-wage jobs now and in the future.
  • I'll keep working to insure we spend our limited tax dollars maintaining the investments we've already made in roads, transit, buildings, and pipes and pumps for sewer and water.
  • I'll keep working with community members to manage growth within the urban growth boundary, to promote vibrancy in our neighborhoods and downtowns, while minimizing the impact of development on the natural environment, farms and forests.

As I said in my first campaign for this office in 2006, I believe that Metro's primary responsibility - and mine - is to make the key community and economic investments that will yield job growth, vitality in our downtowns, environmental responsibility and sustainability, and overall quality of life for our neighborhoods.

I will continue to work collaboratively with all our partners - local governments, community leaders, businesses, and my fellow Metro Councilors. I have earned a reputation as a pragmatic problem-solver, willing to invest the time to build relationships and bring people together to create workable solutions. This is the kind of leadership we continue to need to face the challenges ahead. I ask for your support for another term as Metro Councilor.

Feel free to contact me if you have further questions. And please refer colleagues, friends and neighbors who would be interested in learning about and supporting my campaign for re-election. Thanks for doing your part to keep our region a place that we're all proud to call home!
