Kathryn works tirelessly for her district in Washington County. She brings a high degree of leadership, professionalism, and a collaborative style to her work, continuing to establish Metro as a helpful partner for local governments, fostering community improvement and enhanced quality of life for all. The people she serves will benefit greatly by re-electing Kathryn.
Tom Hughes, Mayor of HillsboroKathryn Harrington believes in building consensus to solve problems. She knows Metro has an important responsibility and knows we need respectful partnerships to get the job done.
Dick Schouten, Washington County CommissionerKathryn best understands the issues facing our region. She will make Metro work for us.
Governor Barbara RobertsFormer State Representative Mary Alice Ford
Kathryn is solution-oriented and a consensus builder from Intel. Metro needs her experience to solve the real problems facing Washington County families. That’s why so many Republicans, Democrats and Independents support Kathryn.
Ed Dennis, Hillsboro City Councilor
Hillsboro needs a good working relationship with Metro. There has been significant rancor in the past, due mostly to a lack of common vision between Metro and our City.
A crucial piece of the solution is to elect the right councilor to represent us at Metro. Kathryn Harrington is the right person to be that councilor. She has the savvy and skills to make our case to Metro, and the determination to engage thoroughly with Hillsboro to know our needs and aspirations.
Kathryn pays attention to detail, she has an open mind to hear and involve all stakeholders, and the ability to grapple successfully with the thorny policy and legal issues that Metro and its partner cities and counties face all the time. Kathryn Harrington’s enthusiasm, attitude, and grit will give us the best representation we can ask for.
Vote Kathryn Harrington as our Metro Councilor.
Tom VanderZanden, Business Owner/Farmer
We know that Kathryn will work with communities, businesses and governments to make sure growth serves our way of life in Washington County.
Aron Carleson, Hillsboro City CouncilorAs a Hillsboro City Councilor, I know how important collaborative relationships between cities and Metro are. Kathryn is the best candidate to maintain the suburban and rural character of Washington County and manage growth to protect clean air and water. She’ll work hard to find creative solutions to improve roads and highways and expand public transit. Please, vote Kathryn Harrington for Metro.
Terry Moore, Former Metro Councilor
We Washington County voters have an easy choice for one of our two representatives on the Metro Council.
Kathryn Harrington is running to represent District 4. Her record of successful hard work as an engineer at Intel and in her Beaverton community will assure that we are well represented at the regional level. Kathryn is a worker and someone who knows how to collaborate to solve problems. She does more than just throw sand in the gears of a working organization. She will build the necessary relationships between the Metro Council and local citizens and elected leaders.
Such relationships are critical to gaining funding for important Washington County projects. Past successes include projects as varied as additions to Tualatin Hills Park District’s Lowami Hart Woods and Nature Parks, widening and neighborhood-protecting-sounds walls on the Sunset Highway, and planning funds for the fast-growing northern areas of the county.
Kathryn is endorsed by a long list of many, varied individuals and organizations. As you read your voters’ pamphlets in the next few weeks take time to learn about Kathryn Harrington. She will well represent your interests.
Kathryn Harrington gets my vote for Metro councilor on the upcoming ballot. Kathryn has been out in the neighborhoods knocking on doors, talking and listening. She has heard first-hand the frustration Cornelius has with Metro.
She has a long business background and has worked in her community. She brings a valuable combination of pragmatic skills and sensitivity to the needs of regular folks.
Kathryn wants to make progress by bringing together all sides to address our challenges together. She doesn't want Metro to dictate to our area. She believes in building consensus to solve problems.
It's time for communication and cooperation between Metro and Cornelius. I encourage voters to elect Kathryn Harrington to Metro.
Residents of Washington County – and Cornelius in particular - would do well to vote for Kathryn Harrington for Metro Councilor in the May election. Kathryn Harrington has made the case that Metro needs to do a better job of satisfying our local needs. Last fall the Metro Council voted at the last minute to reduce the size of Cornelius’ industrial lands expansion. Under appeal, the decision was recently upheld.
This is a decision Kathryn would have opposed. Her 22 years of experience as a high-tech manager along with her collaborative approach will benefit us as we work to expand our local economy. Over the past few months she has made a concerted effort to attend council meetings and discuss local issues with residents as well as representatives of City government. In developing a better understanding of the challenges facing the City, her respect for the character of Cornelius has grown.
This will insure that our point of view is not forgotten at Metro. Join me in voting for Kathryn Harrington for Metro Council District 4.
Kathryn Harrington is the person we need as Washington County's representative for the District 4 Metro Council seat.
I have known Kathryn since became vice-chair of Citizen Participation Organization 7, helping residents organize recommendations for the North Bethany planning effort. Kathryn was also appointed to represent Washington County citizens on a Metro transportation committee.
As a former Intel employee, I can say that Kathryn's career at Intel demonstrates her leadership ability - she got hard jobs done on time and within budget. Kathryn has the skills to be an effective Metro councilor.
Kathryn Harrington as our Metro councilor will make sure Metro serves as a partner with Washington County, our local cities and agencies to manage our future growth. Kathryn is the person to make this happen and help keep Washington County a place where we want to live and work.
I support Kathryn Harrington for Metro Council for District 4. I have worked with Kathryn on the Washington County Committee for Citizen Involvement, and its Steering Committee, for over a year now. With Kathryn involved, CCI accomplishments have increased. Her energy, commitment, and tremendous focus on achieving meaningful results has allowed the CCI to organize its work more effectively. She was also instrumental in developing the CCI Marketing Plan to increase citizen participation. Kathryn has deep passion for giving citizens real opportunities to influence local governmental decisions.
Kathryn is a quick study, an effective negotiator and has a very pragmatic view of how Metro can be more of a partner with Washington County as we deal with our inevitable growth. I feel confident that Kathryn Harrington will be a great voice on the Metro Council for Washington County, and I enthusiastically support her candidacy.
Kathryn will help us balance our new housing and business needs and protect our quality of life. Her business experience and common sense and commitment to protecting our clean air and water are why homebuilders and environmentalists choose her.
Mike Richmond, former Intel managerFew Oregonians want to pave over farmland for a Walmart. But most Oregonians want a healthy, growing economy with affordable housing and without transportation gridlock. Most Oregonians are going to drive, yet most support alternatives for those who can't or don't want to depend on the automobile. For voters in the Metro Council election, the question is, who can best balance these competing needs? Who will work with the public, the council and with staff to implement policies that are the most cost-effective solutions to the needs of our region?
Kathryn Harrington has the right mix of skills and experience to work through these tough issues creating Oregon-style pragmatic solutions. As an Intel engineering manager for many years, Kathryn demonstrated the skills that Intel values: results orientation, discipline, attention to detail and teamwork. On the Council, she will not be pigeon-holed, nor part of a bloc. Instead, Kathryn will focus tirelessly on the problems that our region faces and will support tax-efficient solutions that work.
Mary Manseau, Bethany resident, Chairperson for CPO-7
Kathryn Harrington is the best choice for the District 4 Metro Council seat in Washington County.
I have had the privilege of working with Kathryn in my role as CPO 7 chair. As a citizen volunteer, Kathryn has devoted countless hours to researching issues to better understand growth in our county and to seek and advocate for viable solutions. She sees the need for balanced growth and a healthy economy while still maintaining livability for residents.
Metro has significant influence over the quality of life in our local communities. As an area resident, Kathryn has worked on community issues, digging into issues of public involvement, land use and transportation from a citizen perspective. Kathryn will be a voice of the citizens at Metro.
Kathryn's extensive business background has provided her with the skills needed to bring together the divergent interests on these critical issues. Kathryn will be an effective advocate for Washington County at Metro.
A quick visit to Kathryn Harrington's web site reveals a reasoned and pragmatic approach to Metro. Harrington recognizes that growth and livability are not mutually exclusive. She has the skills and vision to promote growth while protecting the character and livability of Washington County communities. Harrington has my vote for Metro District 4.
Annie Shull, Winery and vineyard owner, SchollsWe’ve known Kathryn for years. She will protect the rural character of Washington County and vital farmlands. And, she’ll get results to real problems for local communities like she has for Intel.
Lenny Anderson, Transportation Advocate
I am very grateful for the time I have served on Metro's Regional Transportation Options Subcommittee with Kathryn Harrington. She brings an eye, and the patience, for detail combined with a deep understanding of the broader policy issues that come with growth and its challenges. No member of the RTO Subcommittee comes better prepared to discuss and resolve the transportation issues that growth brings, and no member has a stronger commitment to the fundamental truth that we must expand the transportation options of the region's residents as our numbers grow.
Too few who work and serve in government bring the discipline of the private sector that Kathryn has, and she remembers a basic lesson of that world...to succeed you need to implement low cost, data-based solutions that effectively address the problem at hand.
Last, she is always gently reminding us that there is an important "world" to the west of the Tualatin Hills that needs to be part of the solution to our regional challenges.
For the Metro Council race for District 4, I support Kathryn Harrington. I know Kathryn as the kind of manager that who seeks out new and creative solutions to tough problems and builds successful teams with a collaborative and inclusive style. She will be responsive to all her constituents and speak out with honesty and clarity. Her demonstrated skills will be perfect for the job as Metro Councilor.
Nathalie Darcy, Washington County Citizen Representative, Metro Policy Advisory CommitteeAs a member of the Metro Policy Advisory Committee (MPAC) and a citizen of Washington County, I appreciate how important it is that Washington County have a strong, clear voice on Metro Council. As County residents, we have a huge stake in regional decisions and need a representative to make our concerns, issues and values heard. Kathryn Harrington understands what is important to us and is committed to helping shape public policy in our best interests. I am pleased to endorse Kathryn Harrington for Metro Council District 4.
Professor Russ Dondero, Forest GroveWashington County is wrestling with the complexities of residential, commercial and industrial growth – but that doesn’t mean that we have to sacrifice the local character our communities. Metro candidate, Kathryn Harrington, has made it a top priority to allow for local flexibility in Metro’s regional planning, so that communities can achieve their own ideal future. She knows that our local values must be honored as regional plans take shape. With a 10-year career as a manager at Intel, and over 22 years in high-tech, Kathryn Harrington comes ready to tackle the complex negotiations and discussions that will be required to speak for us at Metro. Kathryn Harrington will represent our area's concerns as Metro deals with the projected growth of over 900,000 new residents in Washington County between now and 2020. We need hands on, thoughtful and experienced leadership at this critical time; Kathryn Harrington will provide that leadership.
Dawn Bonder, Bethany
Whether you are a Metro regional government believer, atheist, or agnostic, the bottom line is the Metro Council is a decision-making force in our region. Metro will be making decisions that affect our communities in the coming years, and as a Washington County resident, I want the best qualified candidate to represent my interests on the Metro Council. Kathryn Harrington is clearly that candidate. Her business experience coupled with her passion for her community will ensure that Washington County residents are well represented on the Metro Council.
With an additional 1 million people expected to move to our region in the future, we need a Metro Councilor focused on the future - and preserving our quality of life. We need Kathryn's voice - our voice - on the Metro Council.
Please look beyond the Republican and Democratic primary races, beyond the ballot measures, and vote in the important non-partisan races that so affect our daily lives Every seat is important, and for each seat there is a best candidate. I am happy to recommend Kathryn Harrington for Metro Council. Our Metro Councilor has to persuade representatives from our neighboring counties and cities that support for Washington County is good policy for the region. Kathryn has the skills and experience to be that persuasive force. She’ll back up her words with facts and the common vision that will come from regular collaboration with all of the residents and governments of Washington County. Please join me in voting for Kathryn Harrington for Metro Council.
Margaret LaBrecque, former Intel colleague
Kathryn Harrington, who is running for the Metro Council for District 4, was my colleague at Intel for several years. She was well regarded for her positive, “can do” attitude and her pragmatic approach to problem solving. Whereas it is often the case in the highly competitive, high pressure computer industry that managers over-commit and under-deliver, this was not the case with Kathryn. She only made commitments on behalf of her team after careful review, and her team consistently delivered quality results on schedule. I distinctly remember a co-worker commenting one day that, if he had to choose a commander to lead a battle in which his own life was at stake, he would choose someone like Kathryn – someone who could be depended upon to deliver on what she promised. In addition to her successful management of projects, Kathryn was known for being a team player. When faced with a problem, she sought out the advice of her peers, subordinates and managers, and instilled a spirit of team collaboration.
I know how much Kathryn treasures living in our area and am confident she’ll bring her positive enthusiasm and practical work ethic to the Metro Council and champion the goals and interests of Washington Country residents. Kathryn has my vote.
I was delighted when my friend, Kathryn Harrington, said she was a candidate for Metro Councilor from District 4. Land use is a very important issue in this county, and I have found that Kathryn does her homework. She carefully researches issues and listens to the concerns of all. She is organized, articulate, and caring. Kathryn is concerned about job growth, managing the costs of growth, and maintaining the family-oriented nature of our communities. It’s a difficult balance, to be sure, but one that Kathryn, with her business experience, will be most able to accomplish.
Ian Dees, Aloha residentOver the past year and a half, I've had the good fortune to cross paths many times with Kathryn Harrington, a candidate for the seat on the Metro Council for District 4. In Washington County Citizen Participation Organization (CPO) 7, I've watched her work for safe pedestrian / bike routes, better roads and transit, natural area preservation, and more citizen involvement in planning. Washington County will grow by 1,000,000 people over the next ten years. If we manage growth intelligently, we'll save taxpayers money and end up with a more livable community as well. We need Kathryn Harrington's passion and pragmatism.
Arubala Reddy, Beaverton
I am proud to say that I support Kathryn Harrington for Metro Council for District 4. I know that Kathryn will work hard to keep our area a good place to live. As a community advocate she has worked hard to keep me and my neighbors informed about government matters that affect us. When we had a serious road safety problem in our neighborhood, Kathryn contacted the County road engineers to come speak to our Citizen Participation Organization about safety improvements for our road, and advocated for additional enhancements. Kathryn always takes the initiative to get people involved. I would like to see a person with Kathryn's dedication and thoughtfulness representing me in the Metro Council.
We look forward to see Kathryn's representation on the Metro council.
On a special note, she also represents a big non-voter group; children in our neighborhood, who also admire her very much.
Kathryn Harrington has a tremendous work ethic. When working with her at Intel I was impressed with not only her commitment to excellence in her work, but with the sheer volume of output that she was able to accomplish. Kathryn knows how to prioritize her time and her responsibilities to deliver on what needs to be done.
